In most of our lives, there is that one person who always seems breathtakingly interesting: bohemian friends, impeccable taste and effortless sense of cool. Now, if this person were to open a cafe, it would probably look and feel exactly like The Coffee Tree's new outlet.

The design is smart; its interior manages to be both artistic and unpretentious and the front courtyard is well suited to al fresco dining. Lunch, one the other hand, was good but not exceptional. The Greek salad (RMB 58) was fine, featuring plenty of feta and fresh olives, but the vegetable quiche (RMB 35) was ruined when reheated (we suspect in a microwave).

In the end, we recommend keeping your meal light and concluding it with the extraordinary apple and apricot with marzipan cake (RMB 25) and an espresso (RMB 20).
