Located in the Songlei Hotel on the south Third Ring Road, Butterflies offers up an ornately themed dining experience, based on the musical "Butterflies" coming soon to China.

A plethora of purple attacks the eyes as you're seated in wing-shaped seats among enlarged butterflies. Yet amidst the purple haze, Butterflies serves some inspiring Taiwanese dishes.

The black peppered beef strips (RMB42) with shredded onions, green and red peppers served on an iron plate, is a sizzling concoction of delectable delight while the stir-fried, seasoned vegetables (RMB16) are packed with garlic flavor. The restaurant¡¯s signature Taiwan dish is a three-flavor potted chicken (RMB48) that features garlic chicken awash in rice wine and sesame oil. The memorable three-flavor squid (RMB48) combines a similar mix of flavors with notes of basil tossed together in a clay pot. A complimentary cup of mango ice cream helps close the meal.

With a well-stocked and well-serviced bar, Butterflies has the potential for an exciting night out with friends. Its bright purple interior distinguishes it from other restaurants, but good Taiwanese cooking is what really stands out.
