Parker joins West Ham for seven million pounds
LONDON, June 6 - Midfielder Scott Parker completed a seven million pounds ($13.96 million) move from Newcastle United to Premier League rivals West Ham United on Wednesday.
Parker, capped three times by England, has signed a five-year deal, the London club said.
The move represents a return to the English capital for the London-born 26-year-old, who joined Newcastle from Chelsea in 2005 for 10 million pounds.
Parker, an energetic box-to-box player, came to prominence with south-east London club Charlton Athletic and he will be re-united at West Ham with ex-Charlton manager Alan Curbishley.
"I'm delighted Scott has agreed to sign for us," West Ham manager Curbishley told the club's Web site www.whufc.com. "Our relationship goes back some time to when he first joined Charlton as a schoolboy.
"He's coming to the club knowing full well that we're trying to push forward and he wants to be part of that."
Parker's arrival at Upton Park could sigal the departure of West Ham captain Nigel Reo-Coker, with Aston Villa reported to have made a seven million pounds bid.
