Armed with only beef jerky and water, Don Badaczewski and Matt Green arrived at the last stop of their ride early Thursday morning at Pelham Bay Park station in the Bronx after they started the journey in Queens Wednesday.
They allegedly covered the whole system in 24 hours and 2 minutes, beating the existing record of 25 hours and 11 minutes, which has held for eight years.
Officials from the Guinness Book of World Records, however, said they did not break the record because they did not follow the rules. Under the rules, riders must stop at every station during the journey.
But the two young men did not seem to care. "We didn't really care about it being officially certified by Guinness or anything like that. We were just in it for the experience," said Green.
His feeling was echoed by Badaczewski, who marveled at how big the New York City subway is and was proud that they completed the difficult journey.
