Retail sales of China's accommodation and catering industry rose to 571.06
billion yuan (71.4 billion U.S. dollars) in the first seven months, up 15.5
percent from the same period last year.
A source with the Ministry of
Commerce said on Thursday that the growth rate was 2.1 percent higher than the
growth of the total retail sales of consumer goods in the same period.
The industry accounted for 13.4 percent of the total retail sales.
The number of new overseas-invested accommodation and catering
enterprises stood at 605, down 5.5 percent, with the contractual use of foreign
funds totaling 1.62 billion U.S.dollars, up 18.9 percent.
The actual use
of foreign funds amounted to 430 million dollars, a rise of 51.7 percent.
The retail sales of the sector came to 492.86 billion yuan in the first
half, up 15.3 percent from the same period of last year.
