KUWAIT, June 5 - Kuwaiti club Al Salmiya surprised the Portugal national side by holding them 1-1 in a friendly on Tuesday.
Portugal, playing without several of their top players, went ahead after 72 minutes when substitute striker Joao Tomas headed home a cross from winger Ricardo Quaresma.
The Kuwaiti side equalised two minutes from time with a 30-metre free kick by Faraj Laheeb.
Portugal were playing the friendly because they do not have a Euro 2008 qualifier on Wednesday when most of the rest of their group is in action.
They are second in Group A with 14 points after seven matches, five points behind leaders Poland who have played a game more.
